The International Academic Campaign Against the Israeli Occupation and Apartheid has documented 57 martyrs and 1,100 detainees from the beginning of 2022 until last May
The campaign, in its mid-term report, entitled “An Eye on Israeli Apartheid”, explained that the first half of this year was overwhelmed by many violations and crimes against the Palestinians, especially in the issue of discrimination and apartheid
According to the report, the violations practiced by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people were distributed during the observed period, as follows
First, settlement expansion
The colonial “Supreme Planning Council” approved the construction of 4,427 settlement units in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, including the approval of the commencement of building a settlement park between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea on an area of approximately one million acres, which, if implemented, would kill the two-state solution, as it seeks to divide The West Bank is divided into two unconnected parts
Second: Palestinian-people-persecution and denying their basic rights in various fields
: The most important of these crimes are as follows
1. The escalation of the policy of arrests, including administrative detention
According to the report of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, the occupation authorities have issued more than 550 administrative detention orders against prisoners since the beginning of this year.
The occupation army also arrested more than 1,100 citizens throughout the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
According to Israeli security sources, the increase in the number of detainees is due to the increase in the number of forces mobilized by the occupation in the West Bank, where 24 military battalions are currently operating in the West Bank.
2- Human rights violations
The report of the colonization and Wall Resistance Commission monitored a total of 6,107 violations against our people, their properties, and agricultural lands, including the uprooting of trees, and attacks on farmers and residents, by the Israeli occupation forces and settlers.
3- Murder and physical targeting
According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as of May 27, 57 civilians were killed in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
The data collected by the Israeli B’Tselem organization indicated that about 947 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces in the first half of this year.
4- Military checkpoints
According to a study prepared by the Applied Research Institute “ARIJ”, the Palestinians lose about 60 million working hours annually due to the Israeli military checkpoints in the West Bank, whose cost is estimated at about $270 million annually, in addition to consuming an additional 80 million liters of fuel per year, the costs of which are estimated By about $135 million, its consumption leads to an increase in carbon dioxide emissions by about 196,000 tons annually.
Third: forced displacement
According to the decision of the Israeli Supreme Court, which states that Israel can expel about 1,200 Palestinians from their homes in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, lands declared by the occupation army as a “military training area.” This decision is considered the largest forced displacement of Palestinians after the 1948 war.
The Palestinians in these areas suffer from explicit racial discrimination compared to the level of well-being experienced by the Israeli settlers next to them, and the occupation forces are obstructing the ability of the Palestinians there to access basic services such as water, education and health
Fourth: The application of Israeli laws to the settlement “Ariel” University
The Israeli University Presidents Committee decided, in implementation of the previous Israeli government’s decision, to recognize the University of the colony of Ariel, which is located on the lands of Palestinian citizens in the middle of the occupied West Bank near Salfit, and to include it in the membership of the committee. And bypassing international laws, especially the four Geneva Conventions, which consider settlements an illegal act
Fifth: The settlers are not held accountable for their crimes against the Palestinians
The settlers’ attacks on Palestinians amounted to about 200 attacks on average, and in most cases, more than 85% of these attacks are recorded against unknown persons with the occupation police.
For example, two settlers recently fired shots at the Burj al-Luqluq association in the old city of occupied Jerusalem. Despite the state of panic that prevailed among the association’s children, no military action by the occupation soldiers took place, and the perpetrators have not yet been discovered.
In another case, a settler, Ali Hassan Harb (22 years), was stabbed to death near the “Ariel” settlement, while he was defending his land from settlers’ attacks.
According to eyewitnesses, the killing took place before the eyes of the occupation soldiers.
Sixth: The storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque
Data from human rights institutions in the occupied city of Jerusalem indicated that about 4,500 Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque monthly, in a steady and double increase compared to last year 2021.
What distinguishes the extremist settlers’ incursions this year is that they perform Talmudic prayers in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque under the guard of the Israeli occupation soldiers and police. It recorded 38 attacks on places of worship and sanctities, while 4,876 settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in addition to organizing with the so-called “flags march” settlement, in which more than 50,000 settlers participated.
Seventh: Siege of Palestinian villages and towns
The occupation forces are besieging many Palestinian villages and towns, under false security pretexts.
For example, according to Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper, the occupation has continued to impose a military siege on the ports of Aboud village for two weeks, and citizens are challenging this closure by using side and bumpy roads. The continued closure of the entrances to the village negatively affected the lives of more than 2,500 people living in that village, which has been plagued by the presence of several settlements, some of which are built on large parts of the village’s lands.
From another angle, the occupation forces are blocking the roads of the people in Ras Karkar village near Ramallah, and besieging it with seven iron gates and four settlements.
Eight: Land grab
The Isreali occupation forces and settlers continue to seize lands in many Palestinian villages and towns, as the process of seizing lands is increasing in Masafer Yatta, in the Old City of Hebron, and in the vicinity of the villages of Ramallah, Bethlehem, and other areas of the occupied West Bank.
Ninth: Demolition of homes and structures
According to a report by the Jerusalem Center, last month the occupation forces demolished about 42 facilities, including: the homes of prisoners and martyrs, as part of the collective punishment policies pursued by the occupation.
The Israeli authorities also demolished the de-recognized village of Al-Araqib in the Negev, while other facilities were notified of the demolition in the various governorates of the country.
Tenth: Attacking Journalists
The occupation forces committed 148 violations of media freedoms in the occupied Palestinian territories, during the month of May.
In this context, the occupation forces assassinated the journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh on May 11, while she was covering the storming of the Jenin refugee camp by the occupation army.
