The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs called on the international community on Sunday to intensify the efforts to compel Israel to immediately release the Palestinian detainees who have been detained for 8 years in the Israeli prisons after their release within the Wafaa al-Ahrar deal.
On June 18, 2014, Israeli occupation authorities re-arrested 70 prisoners who were released as part of the Wafa Al-Ahrar deal, which was concluded during 2011 with Egyptian mediation. Within the swap,1027 Palestinian prisoners were released in exchange for the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
The Commission added that the occupation authorities re-imposed the previous charges on 50 of the re-arrested prisoners. Currently, Israeli occupation authorities still hold 49 of them inside the prisons under horrific conditions.
Moreover, the commission once again called on human rights organazations to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to release the 49 detainees re-arrested after their release as part of the Wafaa Al-Ahrar (Jilad Shailt) deal.
