DaysofPal- Israeli warplanes targeted today a hospital in southern Lebanon, hitting just meters from the entrance of the Marjayoun Governmental Hospital during a two-week aerial offensive.
Although there were no immediate injuries from the strike, Dr. Mou’nes Kalakesh and the hospital’s medical staff decided to temporarily evacuate the facility due to safety concerns amid the escalating conflict.
This assault on healthcare facilities is part of a wider trend of Israeli strikes throughout Lebanon.
Just last week, the Lebanese Ministry of Health urged hospitals in Beirut’s southern suburbs to evacuate as the intensity of Israeli attacks in the region escalated.
Earlier today, Israeli forces targeted paramedics after the strike on the hospital.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that an ambulance in Marjayoun was struck, resulting in the deaths of all the paramedics inside. Furthermore, another assault claimed the lives of paramedics when a home in the village of Khirbet Selm in the Nabatieh region was bombed.
Lebanese Health Minister Firas Al-Abiad stated on Thursday that more than 40 paramedics and firefighters had been killed by Israeli fire in the past three days. This brings the total number of emergency workers killed since the escalation between Hezbollah and Israel began nearly a year ago to 97.
As the Israeli forces escalate its attacks, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that nearly 900 government-run shelters in Lebanon have reached full capacity, accommodating hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians seeking refuge.
Social services are struggling to manage the overwhelming influx, particularly in southern Lebanon, where relentless bombardment has compelled thousands to flee their homes.
The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has expressed grave concern for the safety of 520,000 women and girls impacted by Israel’s violence, including 11,000 pregnant women in urgent need of healthcare.
Since late September, ongoing strikes have forced the closure of at least 37 healthcare facilities, including nine supported by the UNFPA.
This situation has placed immense pressure on the remaining centers, which are struggling to accommodate the needs of the displaced population.
