DayofPal-Israeli military strikes across the Gaza Strip has resulted in the killing of at least 66 Palestinians and injury of many dozens overnight, according to medical sources on Wednesday.
Among the casualties were 11 displaced people in a school-turned shelter. Meanwhile, Israeli tanks continued their advance into areas surrounding Khan Younis in the southern part of the enclave.
Israeli tanks conducted a raid on multiple areas in eastern and central Khan Younis, situated in the southern Gaza Strip, before executing a partial withdrawal.
According to reports from the official Voice of Palestine radio, the assault resulted in at least 40 fatalities and left dozens more injured.
In Gaza City, at least 22 Palestinians were killed, the medics said, adding that an Israeli strike on a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza City had killed 17 people.
Another strike on Al-Amal Orphan Society, which also houses displaced persons, killed at least five others, the medics confirmed.
The escalation followed Iran’s launch of a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting Israel on Tuesday, a retaliatory measure in response to Israel’s killing of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leaders.
In turn, Israel has vowed a “painful response” to this provocation from its adversary.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip celebrated as they observed dozens of rockets en route to Israel.
Some of these rockets hit directly Israeli soldiers’ base in Natzarim border, separating Gaza’s north from the south, according to eyewitnesses.
