The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation forces have emptied Section 24 in Ofer Prison and continued to transfer a large number of administrative detainees to other prisons.
The Society confirmed in a statement that the detainees have been subjected to beatings and mistreatment during transfer operations and in leave to visit their lawyer.
The Society’s lawyer noted that the general conditions in the prisons have remained difficult and complex since the start of Israeli war on Gaza, revelaing that the detainees are provided with water for only 45 minutes a day, and electricity is cut off at 10 p.m. until noon the next day.
The detainees have been suffering from poor quality food and various punishments imposed since October 7, 2023, according to the Society’s lawyer.
At the end of last week, the Society’s lawyer managed to visit several detainees in Ofer Prison, including: Khalil Qandeel (28) from Ramallah, and three detainees from Bethlehem: Fawzi Salameh (24), Fadi Shahadeh (21), and Baha’eddin Arouj (17).
A few days ago, the Society revealed that the Megiddo Prison serive had intensified its intimidation and threats against detainees during their lawyers’ visits, aiming to dissuade them from conveying the harsh and complex reality they are living, which is imposed and controlled according to the guards’ whims.
It was also noted that detainees in Gilboa Prison daily endure blackmail and provocation policy by the prison administration, which is applied around the clock.
“Every detail is used to remind them of the hellish conditions they endure, which have become an imposed reality,” a lawyer daid.
Since October 7, the suffering of Palestinian detainees in all of the Israeli occupation’s prisons has escalated, amid ongoing violations and severe mistreatment, disregarding all international laws and norms.
