DaysofPal – Israeli warplanes carried out overnight airstrikes on three Yemeni ports and a power station in Hodeida province, the Israeli occupation army announced early Monday, marking the first direct Israeli assault on Yemen in nearly a month.
The strikes targeted the ports of Hodeida, Ras Isa, and Salif, as well as the Ras Qantib power plant in Hodeida City. The Israeli military claimed the attacks were in response to repeated missile and drone launches from Yemeni territory by the armed forces in Sana’a.
Shortly after the bombardment, the Israeli army reported that two missiles had been launched from Yemen and that interception attempts were underway. The outcome of those attempts was still under review at the time of reporting.
On Sunday, earlier in the day, a missile launched from Yemen triggered air raid sirens in southern Israel and was reportedly intercepted without causing casualties, according to Israeli media. A spokesperson for the Yemeni armed forces claimed responsibility, asserting the projectile was a hypersonic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.
In a statement issued after the Israeli strikes, Ansar Allah (Houthi) military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree confirmed that his forces had carried out a coordinated retaliatory operation at dawn on Monday. According to Saree, three ballistic missiles and eight drones were launched, targeting Lod (Ben Gurion) Airport, Ashdod Port, Ashkelon Power Plant, and Umm al-Rashrash (Eilat) Port.
Meanwhile, local residents in Hodeida reported that the Israeli strikes caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure and put the main power station out of service, leaving the city in complete darkness. Despite the damage, no immediate casualties have been confirmed.
Yemen’s Al-Masirah satellite channel confirmed that Israel had launched multiple airstrikes on Hodeida shortly after Israeli military threats to strike the country’s Red Sea ports.
Since November 2023, Yemen’s armed forces aligned with Ansar Allah (Houthi movement) have launched a series of long-range ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel, declaring their attacks a form of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The campaign, they say, is intended to pressure Israel and its U.S. allies to end their ongoing genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and devastated the enclave.
