DaysofPal- The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) shelled al-Helou International Hospital in Gaza City with two tank rounds, leaving the facility isolated and inaccessible, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza.
The Office director Ismail al-Thawabta said doctors and patients inside the hospital were gripped by fear after the strike, which was compounded by the Israeli move to cut internet services to the facility.
He described the step as a deliberate attempt to disconnect the hospital from the outside world and disrupt life-saving medical services for civilians.
Al-Thawabta condemned the attack as a “crime against humanity and a full-fledged war crime,” adding it marked the latest in a series of assaults on Gaza’s already devastated health sector.
Since the start of the war in October 2023, he said, the IOF have destroyed or forced out of service 38 hospitals and 96 primary healthcare centers, while 197 ambulances have been damaged or destroyed. In total, Gaza’s health system has endured 788 direct attacks, resulting in the deaths of 1,670 medical workers while on duty.
“These figures are not mere statistics, but clear evidence of a systematic policy targeting the Palestinian people in their lives, health, and dignity,” al-Thawabta stated, holding both Israel and the United States fully responsible for the consequences.
He called on international human rights and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene, pressuring the Israeli occupation to respect international law and ensure protection for civilians and medical infrastructure in Gaza.
According to Gaza’s health authorities, the Israeli ongoing genocide has killed at least 66,005 people and wounded 168,162 others since October 7, 2023, the majority of them women and children.
Meanwhile, famine conditions have claimed an additional 442 lives, including 147 children.
