DaysofPal- Although using starvation as a war tool is considered a war crime under international law, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have recently been using this tactic against more than 2 million Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which faces daily Israeli massacres.
Thousands of displaced people are currently crowding around the remaining bakeries in the southern Gaza Strip, hoping to get a handful of bread to feed their children.
In the northern Gaza Strip—under a fierce military campaign since October 5—the IOF has destroyed all bakeries as part of Israeli efforts to forcibly displace the population.
Additionally, the IOF is blocking the entry of cooking gas, which displaced people rely on to prepare food, bake bread, and for other essential uses.
Ismail Thawabteh, the Director General of the Government Media Office, stated that since the onset of the genocidal war, the IOF has blocked the entry of over a quarter of a million trucks carrying aid and goods.
Thawabteh added that this is part of a broader Israeli strategy to reinforce starvation as a weapon of war against civilians, especially children, by preventing the entry of food, baby formula, and nutritional supplements.
Additionally, IOF is blocking the entry of fuel necessary for operating desalination plants for drinking water, as well as for bakeries, ambulances, and civil defense vehicles.
In another form of consolidating famine against the people of the Gaza Strip, the IOF is bombing the aid securing committees, killing dozens of them, which exposes the aid trucks arriving in the Gaza Strip to theft by thieves and theft mafias.
Therefore, most of the aid is being stolen and sold in the markets at exorbitant prices that the people cannot afford.
Amidst all these circumstances, famine is making a strong resurgence, but this time it differs from previous instances. People are exhausted from the war and lack any source of income or money to buy the food and water that could save their lives and the lives of their children.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip faces numerous obstacles, adding that out of 423 humanitarian aid movements coordinated with the Israeli authorities between October 1 and 20, only 151 were facilitated, 189 were rejected, and the remainder were suspended.”
In the northern Gaza Strip, the famine is even more severe, as the IOF has engaged in bombing and destruction of all forms of life in that area.
IOF have destroyed all water wells and desalination plants in the area, subsequently bombing bakeries and rendering them inoperable, leaving no functioning bakery behind.”
Furthermore, the IOF has continued to block the entry of any food or medical supplies into northern Gaza for over twenty days.
Concerning the movement of aid to the northern Gaza Strip, the UN office reported that only 4 out of 66 planned movements were facilitated.
IOF also killed several farmers who attempted to cultivate vegetables on their land, particularly in Beit Lahia.
This comes in addition to bombing homes while their residents were inside, resulting in the deaths of over 800 civilians, most of whom are women and children, as part of efforts to forcibly displace the population from the northern Gaza Strip.
Since October 7, 2023, IOF has been waging a war of extermination against the residents of the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of over 150,000 martyrs and injuries, predominantly among children and women.
IOF have also destroyed more than 70% of Gaza homes and have caused near-total devastation of the agricultural and health sectors, as well as the infrastructure in the besieged Strip.”
