DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement stated on Wednesday evening, warning against what it described as Israel’s ongoing “criminal policy” against Palestinian prisoners. According to the statement, thousands of detainees are being held under harsh conditions, facing torture, starvation, and medical negligence, which it claims puts their lives at risk.
“The Israeli crimes are still escalating against our brave prisoners, the latest of which was the martyrdom of prisoner Raafat Adnan Abdul Aziz Abu Funounah, 34, from Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on Wednesday in Israeli prisons,” the statement read.
Hamas further alleged that Abu Funounah, who had been detained since October 7, endured torture and abuse during his detention, despite his injuries and poor health condition. “The martyrdom of prisoner Abu Funounah…proves the Israeli brutality against our prisoners,” the movement stated.
The statement also noted that Abu Funounah’s death brings the total number of Palestinian prisoners killed in Israeli custody since the start of the war to 60, calling it “a dangerous and unprecedented number.”
Hamas reiterated its call for international human rights organizations and legal bodies to intervene, urging them to pressure Israel and hold it accountable for its actions against Palestinian prisoners. The movement also called on “all free people of the world” to stand in solidarity with Palestinian detainees.
