DaysofPal- The Islamic resistance movement of Hamas has declared it is prepared to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent technocratic committee and to support its operations, emphasizing that the urgent priority is launching a serious humanitarian relief effort to address the devastation across Gaza.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem urged the United States to press the Israeli occupation to meet its commitments under the first phase of the ceasefire and proceed to the second phase.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Qassem described U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s announcement of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan as a “significant positive step.”
Qassem said Hamas is ready to relinquish governance to an independent technocratic committee and remove obstacles to its work on the ground.
He added that the movement is open to internal Palestinian dialogue regarding resistance weapons, while stressing that the immediate focus must remain on initiating effective humanitarian relief to prevent further deterioration in Gaza’s cities.
The movement also welcomed the creation of an administrative committee to oversee Gaza, noting ongoing coordination with mediators to reopen border crossings, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and advance the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Hamas noted that the Israeli occupation is attempting to avoid fulfilling its ceasefire obligations.
Meanwhile, Palestinian factions meeting in Cairo voiced support for establishing a transitional body to administer Gaza.
In a joint statement, the factions said they back mediators’ efforts to form a “national Palestinian transitional committee” and called for creating the necessary conditions for it to assume its duties immediately, in cooperation with the Peace Council and its international executive committee.
The factions also appealed to the Peace Council and mediators to pressure the Israeli occupation to halt military operations, open crossings, allow essential aid into Gaza, and withdraw its forces from the territory.
The Cairo talks brought together multiple Palestinian factions and political groups as part of ongoing regional and international efforts to complete the remaining stages of the ceasefire agreement under President Trump’s plan.
Discussions focused on addressing the humanitarian and political consequences of the war and advancing the second phase of the ceasefire, with an emphasis on easing civilian suffering and laying the groundwork for recovery and reconstruction.
The meeting followed continued mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey aimed at unifying the Palestinian position and ensuring implementation of the next phase of the ceasefire.
