Hamas seeks firm guarantees before accepting new ceasefire deal

DaysofPal – Hamas is demanding clear and binding guarantees that a proposed U.S.-backed ceasefire deal will lead to a full cessation of the war in Gaza, a source close to the movement said on Thursday, emphasizing that the group will not accept any temporary truce that leaves the door open for renewed Israeli attacks.

The Islamic Resistance Movement confirmed it is currently engaged in internal consultations with leaders of Palestinian forces and factions to assess the ceasefire offer relayed by Qatari and Egyptian mediators.

“As part of the movement’s keenness to end the Zionist aggression against our people and to ensure the free entry of aid,” Hamas stated in a brief press release, “the movement is holding consultations… and will hand over the final decision to the mediators after the end of the consultations and will announce it officially.”

According to the source, Hamas is particularly focused on securing assurances that the proposed agreement will not be limited to a temporary pause but will lay the foundation for a complete end to hostilities, unrestricted humanitarian access, and a framework for reconstruction. Without such guarantees, the group is unlikely to proceed.

The ceasefire discussions come as Israeli media reported that U.S. President Donald Trump may announce a truce as early as Monday during a scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israeli officials told Yediot Aharonot that political circles in Tel Aviv are showing “cautious optimism” about progress in negotiations and that Hamas may respond positively to the revised deal within hours. If that happens, it could pave the way for “proximity talks” between the two parties to be held in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The reports also suggest that Trump’s anticipated announcement has accelerated Israeli preparations for a possible round of indirect negotiations with Hamas, focused on reaching a broader agreement that would include a prisoner exchange deal.

Despite the diplomatic movement, the situation on the ground in Gaza remains dire. At least 59 Palestinians were killed in intensified Israeli airstrikes on Thursday, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, bringing further devastation to an already battered population. The latest deaths add to the rising toll in a conflict that has now dragged on for nearly 21 months.

President Trump, speaking publicly about the humanitarian catastrophe, said he wants to see the residents of Gaza living in safety, adding that “the people there are going through hell.”
