DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement stated on Wednesday that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deliberately obstructing mediation efforts after the Israeli occupation announced plans to launch a new military campaign against Gaza City, dubbed Operation “Gideon’s Chariots 2”, aiming at destroying the city and displacing its people.

In a press statement, Hamas described the move as a continuation of the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, which has stretched on for more than 22 months.

Hamas also added that Netanyahu’s intention to approve the operation represents a “blatant disregard” for international mediators’ efforts to secure a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal.

“While the movement has announced its approval of the latest proposal presented by the mediators, the Zionist government insists on continuing its brutal war against innocent civilians by escalating its criminal operations in Gaza City to destroy it and displace its people, a fully-fledged war crime,” the statement said.

Hamas argued that Netanyahu’s refusal to respond to the mediators’ plan proves he is “the real obstacle to any agreement,” as he shows no concern for the lives of Israeli captives held in Gaza.

The group further vowed that Operation “Gideon’s Chariots 2” would fail “just like previous military operations have failed,” stressing that occupying Gaza “will not be a simple endeavor.”

Furthermore, Hamas called on mediators and the international community to “exert maximum pressure” on the Israeli occupation to halt what it described as crimes of “genocide and starvation” against Palestinians.
It also held Israel and the U.S. administration fully responsible for the humanitarian consequences of the operation, which it warned aims to destroy “what remains of life’s essentials in Gaza.”
