Hamas spokesman Mohamed Hamada has held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the consequences of its foreign minister Yair Lapid’s provocative visit to the East Jerusalem area of Bab al-Amud on Sunday, describing the step as a “dangerous escalation.”
In a statement on Sunday, spokesman Hamada said that Lapid’s tour of Bab al-Amud and the violent police raid on the same area that happened subsequently reflected Israeli persistence in carrying out malicious plots against Occupied Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.
The spokesman also described Lapid’s step as “a provocation to the feelings of the Palestinian people and the Muslim nation during the holy month of Ramadan.”
“We and our people have taken the oath to protect Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque with might and main and with all possible means,” he underscored.
At least 19 Palestinians were injured in a violent police raid on the Old City’s Bab al-Amud area. The police violence started a few hours after Lapid and other Israeli officials stormed the area.
