The Head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Ismail Haniyeh hailed on Saturday, 2 September 2023 Libya’s Position on normalization with Israeli occupation.
Haniyeh spoke with the head of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Al-Menfi and discussed developments related to the Palestinian issue and the Libyan position on the normalization of relations with Israeli occupation.
Haniyeh voiced Palestinians’ gratitude for Libya’s rejection of normalizing ties with the Israeli regime.
Haniyeh added that the Palestinian people received the Libyan position with pride especially because it stands in contrast with those of a number of fellow Arab countries that have normalized relations with ‘Israel’.
Al-Menfi expressed Libya’s firm and irrevocable position on the Palestinian cause and recalled his visit to the Gaza Strip ten years ago, expressing his fond memories of the visit.
“I speak on behalf of all of you, about our pride in the position Libyans have taken, which they made clear across a number of platforms, that the Palestinian cause runs in their veins.” said Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in his address to Cabinet.
“We vehemently refuse any kind of normalization and fully support the Palestinian people and their just cause and their eternal capital, Jerusalem, and we continue to condemn all attacks on them and their rights,” he added.
It is worth noting that Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh sacked on 28 August the Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush for meeting the Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen.
The move came one day after Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that he had met with Al-Mangoush in Rome, Italy.
Dbeibeh took the decision to sack Al-Mangoush during his meeting with Palestinian Ambassador Mohammad Rahhal at the Palestinian Embassy in Tripoli, saying that Al-Mangoush’s action “does not represent the position of the Libyan government and the people.”
North African country does not recognize Israel and does not have diplomatic relations with the Israeli regime as the law forbids recognizing Israel.
Since 1979, Six Arab countries normalized ties with Israeli apartheid forming with Egypt, Jordan in 1994, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco in 2020 through the so-called “Abraham Accords” brokered by the United States.
