Israeli occupation forces demolished and seized 33 buildings in Jerusalem and the West Bank in the past two weeks of August 2023, according to a statement by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Palestinian territories.
The report issued by OCHA revealed that these demolition operations have resulted in the displacement of 22 Palestinians, including 10 children, and have damaged the livelihoods of over 100 others, spanning from August 8th to August 21st, 2023.
The report pointed out that three of the affected buildings were provided by donors as part of a response to a prior demolition operation in the Ashteh area of Jericho and Hamseh al-Farsha in Nablus.
The report further highlights that out of the damaged structures, 29 were located in Area C, including four buildings demolished in Ein Shibli near Nablus, an area declared a natural reserve by the Israeli occupation.
Covering 60 percent of the West Bank under occupation, Area C was originally designated to transition into the Palestinian Authority’s administration as per the Oslo Accords.
However, Israel has maintained complete authority over this region up to the present day, diverging from the accord’s intended course of action.
Casualties
According to the United Nations report, Israeli forces have killed six Palestinians, including a child, in the past two weeks during various operations across the West Bank.
