DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has condemned the announcement by the Somaliland administration regarding a reciprocal recognition arrangement with the Israeli occupation, warning that the move sets a dangerous precedent and violates international law.
In a statement released on Saturday, Hamas described the recognition as an attempt to grant legitimacy to the Israeli occupation, which is occupying Palestinian territory, controlling Islamic holy sites, and committing serious violations during the ongoing war in Gaza.
The Movement said the step comes as the Israeli occupation faces increasing diplomatic isolation internationally.
Hamas reiterated its firm rejection of any Israeli plans aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians, including reports suggesting Somaliland could be considered as a destination for residents of the Gaza Strip.
The statement also claimed that the Israeli recognition of a separatist authority in Somalia reflects what Hamas described as growing international isolation under Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, attributing this to Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
Hamas accused the Israeli leadership of responsibility for crimes against the Palestinian population.
Calling on the international community to intensify political and legal pressure, Hamas urged governments and civil society groups to expand efforts to hold Israeli officials accountable under international law.
Moreover, the movement welcomed positions taken by Arab and Islamic countries opposing Somaliland’s move, arguing that recognition undermines Somalia’s unity and sovereignty and contravenes international legal norms.
In addition, Hamas warned that the Israeli policies threaten regional stability, accusing it of seeking to divide Arab states and interfere in their internal affairs to advance what it described as a colonial agenda.
