DaysofPal-Hamas welcomed the announcement of a temporary Palestinian transitional committee to administer the Gaza Strip, describing it as a crucial step toward implementing the ceasefire agreement, preventing a renewed escalation, and launching a comprehensive reconstruction process.
Bassem Naim, the prominent member of Hamas’s political bureau, said on Thursday that the formation of a provisional committee to manage Gaza’s affairs across all sectors and throughout the territory represents progress toward stabilizing the ceasefire and addressing the severe humanitarian catastrophe.
In remarks to Al Araby Television, Naim said the committee should serve as an entry point to a broader Palestinian political process aimed at restoring national unity and ending internal divisions.
He added that the temporary body should eventually lead to the establishment of a national unity government, reaffirming the political unity of the Palestinian territories and confronting the policies of the current far-right Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Naim described this course as a national responsibility at the current stage, calling for unified political and popular efforts to counter Israeli plans and advance toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
He said Hamas has expressed its readiness to hand over the administration of Gaza to the transitional national committee and to facilitate its work in a way that serves the interests of the Palestinian people.
“The responsibility now lies with the mediators, the American guarantor, and the international community,” Naim said, urging them to enable the committee to perform its duties and to prevent the attempts by Netanyahu to delay or obstruct the implementation of the agreement.
Naim also wished the committee’s leadership success in the challenging mission, stressing the importance of supporting its efforts to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s population.
On Wednesday, Palestinian factions meeting in Cairo announced their support for the formation of the transitional committee to govern Gaza.
In a joint statement, the factions endorsed mediation efforts and called for creating appropriate conditions to allow the committee to immediately assume its full responsibilities.
The statement also urged the so-called Peace Council, in coordination with mediators, to pressure the Israeli occupation to halt military operations, open border crossings, allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, and complete a full withdrawal from the enclave.
Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said Wednesday that the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza has been launched.
Witkoff said the new phase aims to move from a ceasefire to disarmament, establish a technocratic Palestinian administration, and begin reconstruction.
According to Witkoff, the plan includes forming a technocratic transitional authority in Gaza, referred to as the “National Committee for the Administration of Gaza,” alongside a process of full disarmament involving the dismantling of armed groups deemed “unauthorized.”
He said Washington expects Hamas to fully meet its commitments under the plan.
