DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement’s spokesperson, Hazem Qassem, stressed that any agreements about Gaza’s management do not imply the movement’s demise or the involvement of other national groups.
He emphasized that, rather than a retreat from its political and resistance responsibilities, Hamas’s withdrawal from administrative and governance roles would serve Palestinian interests.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Qassem addressed circulating social media comments that suggested discussions about new administrative arrangements in Gaza imply the end of Hamas’s or national factions’ influence. He called this view misleading and completely off-base.
Qassem affirmed that Hamas will continue its national duty to pursue the rights of the Palestinian people, including freedom, independence, and self-determination. He described Hamas as a central component of the broader Palestinian national movement, representing the legitimate aspirations and hopes of the Palestinian people.
He stressed that no one should assume Hamas has ended or that its leading role in the national struggle has diminished. According to Qassem, the movement carries a “noble mission and an enduring banner” in defending Palestinian national rights.
In a similar vein, Hamas leader Mohammad Nazzal affirmed the movement’s complete willingness to transfer control of Gaza to the Palestinian technocratic committee headed by Dr. Ali Shaath. Hamas has been clear about where it stands and won’t get in the way of the handover, Nazzal said.
Nazzal pointed out that the main obstacle is Israel’s prevention of committee members from accessing Gaza. The real problem is Israel blocking this, Nazzal said, and the mediators and Americans need to pressure Netanyahu to actually follow through on the deal.
