DaysofPal— Hamas Movement has strongly criticized the complete silence of the so-called “Peace Council” and its Executive Director, Nikolay Mladenov, regarding recent Israeli statements about plans to occupy up to 70 percent of the Gaza Strip and displace its population.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said in a statement on Friday that the Israeli declarations constitute a clear violation of the ceasefire plan and the publicly announced understandings concerning Gaza.
Qassem stressed that ignoring such statements and failing to condemn the Israeli expansionist policies and forced displacement plans raises serious questions about the commitment of mediating parties to holding Israeli occupation accountable for its obligations and putting an end to ongoing violations.
He called on allied and friendly countries represented in the “Peace Council” to take a clear and explicit stance on the repeated Israeli breaches of the ceasefire agreement.
He also urged them to take practical steps to pressure the Israeli occupation to halt its policies and plans aimed at imposing new realities on the ground.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that Israeli forces currently control around 60 percent of the Gaza Strip and revealed plans to expand that control to 70 percent.
Meanwhile, Israeli war minister Israel Katz reiterated that a plan to displace Gaza’s population would be implemented “at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner.”
The remarks and responses come amid heightened tensions and growing international concern over the future of Gaza and its civilian population because of the continued Israeli genocide against Gaza.
