DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has called for a mass mobilization on Friday, April 3, 2026, urging Palestinians and supporters across the Arab and Islamic world to demonstrate in solidarity with prisoners in Israeli jails and in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the group called for large-scale public gatherings and protests in cities and public squares, describing the planned day as one of collective action in defense of religious and national causes. It warned that access to Al-Aqsa Mosque continues to be denied to worshippers while Palestinian prisoners face increasingly severe measures.
The call follows the recent approval of a controversial law by the Knesset introducing the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks. The legislation, passed with 62 votes in favor and 48 against, was promoted by far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir as part of coalition agreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
According to details reported in Israeli media, the law grants full legal immunity to prison officials tasked with carrying out executions and ensures the confidentiality of their identities. It also allows military courts in the occupied West Bank to issue death sentences by a simple majority, removing the requirement for unanimous judicial agreement or a formal request from the prosecution.
The legislation further prohibits any reduction or cancellation of the sentence by military authorities and mandates that executions be carried out within 90 days of a final ruling. Prisoners sentenced under the law would be held in underground solitary confinement and denied family visits.
The law has drawn widespread Palestinian and international criticism, particularly in light of the conditions faced by more than 9,300 Palestinians currently held in Israeli prisons.
Human rights organizations report worsening detention conditions since October 2023, including torture, starvation, and medical neglect, which have led to multiple deaths in custody.
At the same time, Israeli occupation forces continue to enforce a full closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, which has now entered its 33rd consecutive day. The restrictions prevent both worshippers and visitors from accessing the site and are accompanied by heightened military measures across the city.
