DayofPal– Nearly 500,000 vulnerable children and elderly in Gaza face the dire threat of starvation and freezing temperatures due to Israel’s ongoing blockade of humanitarian aid, as warned by the Gaza’s Ministry of Social Development.
The ministry reports that 2.4 million Gaza residents are now fully dependent on humanitarian aid for survival, but severe restrictions and a ban on private sector operations have left families unable to stock essential supplies.
“Nearly 300,000 children and 140,000 elderly people are at risk of death as the situation has reached critical levels,” the ministry added.
The aid suspension ordered by Netanyahu on the first day of Ramadan has paralyzed daily life, with bakeries shut down due to the lack of flour and fuel, while cooking gas has been blocked from reaching households.
With more than 80% of Gaza’s buildings destroyed by Israeli airstrikes, many families now have no shelter, as materials for tents and mobile homes remain inaccessible amid full closure of Gaza crossings.
In an urgent plea to the international community, the Ministry condemned Israel’s blockade as a violation of international law and agreements, emphasizing that such actions only deepen the humanitarian crisis.
The blockade enters its fourth day and humanitarian aid remains suspended as Israel seeks to pressure Hamas into altering a previous agreement, one that had already been signed and brokered by mediators.
