DayofPal– In a high-stakes emergency summit, Arab leaders gathered in Cairo to endorse Egypt’s ambitious plan for Gaza’s reconstruction and governance, while firmly rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians.
The summit, attended by key regional figures, sent a unified message against external pressures, especially against Trump’s displacement plan for Gaza, and reaffirmed support for Palestinian sovereignty.
Egypt’s proposal, at the heart of the summit’s discussions, lays out a structured approach to rebuilding Gaza and stabilizing its governance.
The plan envisions a six-month administrative committee composed of independent technocrats to oversee Gaza under the Palestinian government, creating a pathway toward full Palestinian leadership.
Security arrangements will be bolstered through Egyptian and Jordanian training of Palestinian police, with discussions on potential international peacekeeping forces in Gaza and the West Bank.
To ensure stability, a medium-term ceasefire is proposed, alongside a renewed commitment to a two-state solution as the cornerstone of peace.
On the ground, immediate priorities include clearing debris and providing temporary housing for displaced families. Egypt, alongside international companies, will spearhead the construction of 20 temporary housing zones, with a broader three-year reconstruction effort in the works.
Crucially, the plan also envisions Palestinian elections within a year, if conditions allow, reinforcing Gaza’s inseparable connection to Palestine.
The summit underscored Arab nations’ collective rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians, a stance that directly counters past proposals, including those floated by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Leaders also pledged to pursue legal and international avenues to protect Palestinian rights and ensure ceasefire commitments are upheld.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres threw his weight behind Egypt’s initiative, hailing it as a vital step toward Gaza’s recovery. Addressing the summit, he underscored that Gaza’s future is inseparable from a sovereign Palestinian state and warned against any attempts to alter its demographic composition.
Guterres emphasized that reconstruction is about more than just rebuilding homes. It is about restoring dignity and rejecting ethnic cleansing. He also stressed that humanitarian aid must be treated as a fundamental right, not a bargaining chip.
As the summit concluded, Arab leaders pushed forward with Gaza’s reconstruction while resisting any efforts to undermine Palestinian self-determination.
