DaysofPal—The Government Media Office (GMO) in the Gaza Strip has warned of the worsening humanitarian situation in the territory, stressing that the threat of famine is growing by the day and endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands, including around 650 thousand children under the age of five.
In a statement on Saturday, the office stated that the Israeli blockade on Gaza has now entered its 133rd consecutive day, with all crossings closed and the entry of food, medicine, and fuel prohibited, describing it as one of the most severe forms of collective punishment in modern times.
The statement reported dozens of deaths in the past three days due to the lack of food and essential medicines, describing the humanitarian conditions as among the harshest the region has ever seen.
The office emphasized that the Israeli occupation continues its deliberate policy of denying the entry of basic food and medical supplies, such as flour and baby formula, in a clear attempt to starve the population, particularly children, and deprive them of the most basic components of a dignified life.
Moreover, it confirmed that 67 children have died so far due to malnutrition. In comparison, more than 650,000 children under five are at risk of severe acute malnutrition in the coming weeks, out of a total of 1.1 million children in Gaza.
The office further reported that approximately 1.25 million people in Gaza are currently facing catastrophic levels of hunger, and 96% of the population is suffering from food insecurity, including over one million children, reflecting the scale of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
Additionally, the Government Media Office strongly condemned what it described as organized crimes being committed against more than two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, holding the Israeli occupation fully responsible for a systematic policy of genocide and starvation.
It also harshly criticized the countries supporting or complicit with the Israeli occupation, particularly the United States, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, accusing them of bearing moral and legal responsibility for the ongoing catastrophe due to their silence and failure to act to stop these crimes.
The GMO called on the international community, Arab and Islamic countries, and all people of conscience worldwide to take immediate and urgent action to break the siege on Gaza, allow the entry of essential humanitarian and medical aid, and save the Palestinian people from the threat of death by starvation, as the disaster continues to claim the lives of children, the sick, and women.
