DaysofPal- The head of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail Thawabta, warned that Israeli occupation is progressively intensifying a war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, citing a marked escalation in both the scale and nature of attacks against civilians.
In a press release issued on Sunday, Thawabta said recent field data and statistics indicate a clear shift in the Israeli occupation’s tactics, from broad aerial bombardments to more direct targeting of individuals, including those sheltering in displacement camps.
“There is no such thing as random gunfire,” he said, adding that “what is happening is deliberate and systematic targeting of civilians.”
According to Thawabta, Israeli forces have killed 143 people by gunfire during the ceasefire period, with most of the incidents occurring in recent days.
He stressed that these shootings cannot be classified as stray or accidental but rather constitute direct attacks on civilians.
He added that dozens of fatalities have been recorded among displaced persons in tents across multiple areas in Gaza, where individuals were reportedly shot directly. Most of the victims, he said, are women, children, and the elderly.
“These patterns of targeting reflect a deliberate attempt to inflict the highest number of casualties among the most vulnerable groups,” Thawabta stated.
The reported incidents have been concentrated in open shelter areas, near displacement centers, and in densely populated locations, with ongoing efforts to document the precise number of casualties and affected areas.
Thawabta also pointed to a significant escalation over the past two days, with intensified strikes targeting residential communities, displacement tents, and crowded civilian areas.
He further accused Israeli forces of deliberately targeting members of the Palestinian police, calling it a “blatant violation” of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality.
The cumulative number of reported ceasefire violations has reached 2,560 as of Sunday, according to the Gaza Government Media Office. Since the ceasefire began, Thawabta said 811 people have been killed and 2,278 wounded.
In addition to military actions, Thawabta highlighted a sharp decline in humanitarian access, stating that only 37% of aid commitments have been fulfilled, while the Rafah crossing has operated at just 28% capacity.
He argued that these developments reflect a coordinated use of both military force and humanitarian restrictions to increase pressure on Gaza’s civilian population.
Thawabta concluded with a warning of a “gradual, systematic, and deliberate escalation,” combining intensified firepower, expanded targeting of displacement camps, and the reduction of basic living conditions, calling for urgent international intervention to halt the situation and hold those responsible accountable.
