DaysofPal — An Israeli monitoring group has revealed that the Israeli occupation is setting plans to build new settlement units in the occupied West Bank, as the total number of approved units this year continues to rise.
According to the Israeli organization Peace Now, the Higher Planning Council affiliated with the Israeli military is scheduled to discuss on Wednesday a proposal to build 643 new settlement units across various areas of the West Bank.
In a statement released Monday, the group said that 126 of those units are expected to receive final approval in the settlement of Sanur, located in the Jenin Governorate in the northern West Bank.
Sanur was previously evacuated under the Israeli 2005 disengagement plan. However, in May 2025, the Israeli political-security cabinet decided to re-establish the settlement following legislative amendments introduced by the current right-wing government.
These changes lifted restrictions on settlement presence in parts of the northern West Bank.
Peace Now noted that the pace of planning discussions and approvals in this case is relatively exceptional, reflecting a clear intent by the Israeli government to renew settlement activity in northern areas where no settlers had been present for more than two decades.
The organization added that the total number of settlement units approved in 2026, including those under consideration, has reached 3,732.
Approximately 750,000 Israeli settlers currently live in hundreds of settlements across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
These settlements are widely regarded as illegal under international law.
Palestinians and rights groups have long accused settlers of carrying out frequent attacks on Palestinian communities and property, often to force residents to leave their land.
