DaysofPal – The Government Media Office in Gaza has documented the killing of 56 journalists during the year 2025 while they were carrying out their professional duties, bringing the total number of journalists killed since the start of the genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people to 275.
In a statement, the office noted that the fate of three journalists remains unknown, while more than 420 others have been injured to varying degrees while performing their work. These figures, it said, underscore the extreme dangers faced by Palestinian media workers amid ongoing hostilities.
The office also reported that 50 journalists were subjected to arrest and torture in what it described as a blatant violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of journalists during armed conflicts. This, the statement added, reflects a systematic targeting of the free Palestinian narrative.
According to the media office, the figures point to a deliberate campaign against Palestinian journalists, accusing Israeli forces of attempting to silence the truth through killing, intimidation, and detention, in serious violation of humanitarian norms and international law.
The statement emphasized that Palestinian journalists have remained partners in a battle for awareness and dignity, serving as the architects of an authentic narrative that has exposed Israeli violations to the world. This has continued despite ongoing efforts by Israeli authorities to impose media blackouts and spread disinformation.
These statistics were released ahead of Palestinian Journalist Loyalty Day, observed annually on December 31, a date dedicated to honoring journalists as bearers of truth who have fulfilled their professional and national duties with integrity and courage under the harshest conditions.
The occasion serves as a tribute to those who stood on the front lines in defense of truth and in support of the Palestinian cause.
The Government Media Office concluded that this year’s commemoration comes under unprecedented and exceptional circumstances, following two years of what it described as a genocidal war waged by Israel against the Palestinian people, accompanied by systematic targeting of journalists and media institutions in what it called a desperate attempt to silence free voices and obscure facts from global public opinion.
