DaysofPal- The Ministry of Health in Gaza warned on Friday that hospitals in Gaza City are operating under catastrophic conditions, with patient occupancy exceeding 250 percent, leaving medical staff unable to meet the overwhelming demand for care.
In a press statement, the ministry said hospitals are overcrowded with the wounded and sick, and that only limited services can still be provided.
The crisis has been compounded by the mass displacement of civilians toward southern Gaza, which has added further strain on facilities already depleted of staff, medicine, and equipment.
“We are facing catastrophic conditions in Gaza City, where nearly 800,000 residents remain,” the ministry said.
Emergency departments in the few hospitals that are still functioning are experiencing extreme overcrowding, while medical teams struggle to cope with shortages of essential medicines and life-saving supplies.
The ministry highlighted a severe shortage in blood units and components, complicating urgent surgical interventions for the wounded.
It also stressed that patients and casualties across Gaza are trapped in what it described as a “triangle of terror” including hunger, bombardment, and denial of treatment.
According to the ministry, the situation has moved beyond a crisis and into catastrophic levels, with indicators of medicine and medical supplies nearing total depletion.
Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, at least 65,141 Palestinians have been killed and 165,925 injured, the majority of them women and children. The Israeli war has also forced the displacement of hundreds of thousands and caused famine that has claimed the lives of 435 Palestinians, including 147 children.
