13-Year-Old Girl Killed in Gaza Tent Strike as Israeli Ceasefire Violations Continue

DaysofPal – Thirteen-year-old Elin Al-Farra became the latest child killed in Gaza after an Israeli tank shell struck a displacement tent in Khan Younis on Wednesday morning, in another deadly incident amid continuing reported violations of the ceasefire.

According to her family and medical officials, Elin was inside her family’s tent near Abu Hamid Roundabout, west of Salah al-Din Street, when the shell hit at around 9:02 a.m. Witnesses said she had been quietly reciting verses from the Quran, seeking comfort after months of war and displacement, when shrapnel tore through the tent and fatally struck her in the head.

Her body was taken to Nasser Medical Complex, where grieving relatives gathered to bid farewell to the young girl. Family members said the area had previously been designated a “safe zone” for displaced civilians.

Her uncle, Ahmad Al-Farra, said the family had already survived an earlier attack in the same area but stayed after being told it was safe.

“We were only trying to find shelter and live with a measure of safety. We are civilians. We pose no threat,” he said.

He added that Israeli shelling resumed shortly after evening prayers and that residents have repeatedly come under fire despite the area’s humanitarian designation.

“We only want to live, but death keeps finding us—even inside our tents.”

Doctors at Nasser Medical Complex said Elin’s killing reflects the devastating toll the war has taken on Gaza’s children. Dr. Ahmad Al-Farra, head of the hospital’s pediatric and maternity department, said thousands of children have been killed since the war began.

“She was not just another number, yet today she has become another name on a long list,” he said, noting that Elin had been wearing a shirt bearing the words: “We are not numbers.”

Medical staff also warned of an escalating psychological crisis among Gaza’s children, many of whom suffer from severe trauma, recurring nightmares, anxiety, and profound loss after enduring repeated displacement and violence. According to local health officials, tens of thousands have also lost one or both parents.

Elin’s final moments—reciting the Quran inside a fragile tent she believed would offer safety—have deeply resonated with her family and community. Her story has become another stark reminder of the vulnerability of Gaza’s children, where displacement shelters no longer provide protection and even the youngest civilians remain exposed to the horrors of war.
