DaysofPal- At least 23 people have been killed by the Israeli military across the Gaza Strip since dawn, including 17 in Gaza City, one in Jabalia and five, including three World Central Kitchen aid workers, in Khan Younis, according to medical sources.
Numerous people are still missing beneath the debris of a destroyed house, according to medical sources. In addition, an Israeli airstrike that targeted a group of people gathering firewood killed five Palestinians.
A member of Gaza’s Civil Defence, Muhammad Zuhair al-Sharbasi, was killed in the ongoing Israeli bombing campaign that targets residential areas in the northern Gaza Strip’s Jabalia refugee camp. According to the rescue service, al-Sharbasi’s death comes amid a devastating wave of airstrikes that have continued to strike homes and civilian infrastructure across the region.
Earlier today, an Israeli drone strike killed at least one person near Halimah al-Saadiyah School in the Jabalia area. In addition, Israeli army helicopters opened fire on homes near Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, further intensifying the already dire situation for residents.
Meanwhile, in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, an Israeli drone targeted a civil car belonging to World Central Kitchen (WCK) on Salah al-Din Street. Five civilians were killed in the attack, including three WCK aid workers who were attempting to reach one of the organization’s distribution points. Among the victims was the local Palestinian director of WCK in Gaza. The tragic strike appears to be part of a broader escalation in Israeli attacks on aid workers operating in the region.
This attack is the latest in a series of assaults on humanitarian workers. In April, seven international WCK staff members were targeted in Deir el-Balah while traveling in clearly marked WCK vehicles. The Israeli military had justified the attack at the time as a case of misidentification, but the recent surge in attacks, particularly on buildings believed to house WCK warehouses, suggests a troubling trend.
These incidents highlight the escalating danger faced by aid organizations working in Gaza, with the international community increasingly alarmed at the growing targeting of humanitarian workers, as well as civilians, in the midst of ongoing hostilities. The latest airstrikes on both civilian homes and aid workers underscore the deadly toll that Gaza’s residents and those providing critical assistance are facing as the violence intensifies.
