DayofPal– A civil car belonging to the World Central Kitchen (WCK) was targeted by an Israeli drone on the Salah Al-Din Street in the eastern part of Khan Younis city, southern Gaza Strip, early on Saturday.
Five civilians, including three of the WCK workers, were killed without any prior warning. One of the victims was the director of the charity kitchens here in the Gaza Strip. The bodies were evacuated to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
Gazan tribe of Al-Amour revealed that the Israeli occupation army, its armed gangs, and thieves had deliberately shot at WCK car containing the members, injuring two personnel from Al-Amour tribe who were securing the World Central Kitchen convoy when it was on way east of Rafah.
The Israeli forces followed the convoy and targeted it with the accompanying security personnel inside by an Israeli drone when they reached Salah Al-Din Street east of Khan Younis.
Five people, including three working with WCK, were immediately killed and two others were injured. The incident marks one of Israel’s methods to block aid from reaching Gaza and a mechanism to further worsen Gaza famine crisis.
The Israeli military at the time justified the attack to be a sort of misidentification but the bleak reality is that in the past few weeks there has been a surge in attacks on buildings considered to be warehouses for the aid organizations.
This is another sign that Israel is escalating its strikes on aid. Last week, Israeli forces carried out an attack on aid workers south of Khan Younis, killing 5 people and injuring several others. The victims were part of a team ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
In April, seven international aid workers of the WCK were targeted in Deir Al-Balah while they were travelling in three vehicles belonging to the organisation, with clear WCK signage attached to the car.
