DaysofPal- The Gaza Health Ministry reported the recovery of 43 bodies in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to 47,460 since October 7, 2023.
The ministry also reported 9 injuries, bringing the total number of injured to 111,580. It further indicated that thousands of victims remain buried under the rubble or scattered along the roads as emergency medical and civil defense teams continue to face insurmountable challenges in reaching the affected areas.
In a related context, a UN official warned of the continued threat posed by remnants of the Israeli occupation army’s explosive ordnance and its impact on the lives of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid, even after a ceasefire begins in the Gaza Strip.
The director of the United Nations Mine Action Service in the occupied Palestinian territory, Loic Eirving, explained in a press conference held in New York last night that the service has encountered various types of ordnance over the past 14 months, including air bombs, rockets, and projectiles, adding that these munitions have caused deaths and injuries among civilians and hindered humanitarian operations, noting that initial reports document 92 casualties since October 2023.
Similarly, Israel’s genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, “has left behind destruction in the Strip the likes of which we have not seen since World War II” between 1939 and 1945, according to Balakrishnan Rajagopal, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing.
Rajagopal noted in an interview that the destruction in the Gaza Strip is “unprecedented in its scope, brutality, and immense impact on the Palestinians living there.”
He pointed to the complete destruction of more than 80% of homes in Gaza, “which is unlike what happened when the German city of Dresden was destroyed.”
He explained that Palestinians in Gaza face enormous challenges among the rubble, removing debris and rebuilding their lives.
