DaysofPal- The International Committee to Break the Israeli Siege on Gaza announced that more than 50 ships participating in the Global Freedom Flotilla will converge near Malta before sailing together toward Gaza, carrying aid supplies and international activists.
According to the committee, the flotilla began setting sail in stages on Sunday evening from multiple ports in Tunisia, Italy, Greece, and Libya.
Spanish vessels also joined the mission, departing from Barcelona earlier this month and later resuming their journey from Bizerte, Tunisia, after brief technical and organizational stops.
The ships are expected to gather at a meeting point close to Malta before embarking jointly toward the Gaza coast.
While the exact timing was not disclosed, organizers stressed that the flotilla represents an unprecedented effort in both size and diversity.
On board are hundreds of activists from more than 40 countries, including Arab supporters, parliamentarians, doctors, and community leaders from North Africa.
The flotilla also includes participants from Malaysia, Turkey, and across every continent. The ships are carrying relief supplies, medicines, and infant formula for Gaza’s civilians, who have endured nearly two years of war and siege.
The committee described the mission as a potential turning point in global solidarity efforts to break the suffocating Israeli blockade on Gaza.
It called for international protection for the activists, warning that any assault on the flotilla would constitute a “grave crime” and a violation of international law, which prohibits attacks on peaceful humanitarian vessels in international waters.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli genocide against Gaza has killed 64,964 Palestinians and injured 165,312, most of them women and children.
Moreover, the Israeli-made starvation has also claimed at least 428 lives, including 146 children, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The committee urged governments with citizens aboard the flotilla to intervene diplomatically to ensure safe passage and the delivery of aid to Gaza’s besieged population.
