France, UAE, China Call for Urgent UN Security Council Meeting After Jenin Raid

M.Y | DOP -

The United Arab Emirates, France, and China have requested an immediate UN Security Council session in the wake of the deadly Israeli raid in Jenin on Thursday.

The UAE asked Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, to provide them with an update on the current situation between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Israeli occupation forces raided the city of Jenin in the West Bank on Thursday, killing at least 10 Palestinians.

Several nations including Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait condemned the Israeli raid on Jenin while the Palestinian Authority said that it was halting its security coordination with the Israeli occupation. The United States was worried about the violence in advance of Secretary of State Antony Blinken‘s visit in the upcoming week.

UN and Arab mediators announced that they were having negotiations with Israeli and Palestinian groups in order to forestall a possible worsening of the situation following the raid in Jenin.
