DaysofPal – Nearly ten months after a ceasefire was officially declared, Israel’s genocidal campaign continues unabated across the Gaza Strip. Palestinian officials confirm the agreement has effectively collapsed on the ground, citing relentless military breaches and a crippling reduction in humanitarian aid. The ongoing violence has severely worsened the region’s humanitarian crisis, triggering intense scrutiny over the viability of the truce and the effectiveness of international mediators.
The Government Media Office in Gaza said the Israeli occupation forces carried out several attacks over the past 72 hours, killing more than 25 civilians. According to the office, the strikes targeted crowded markets, funeral gatherings, civilian assemblies, and residential homes.
Officials stated that more than 3,750 ceasefire violations have been documented since the agreement was announced, accusing Israel of failing to uphold its commitments and calling on international mediators and guarantor states to intervene and ensure implementation of the ceasefire.
Funeral in Nuseirat Turned into a Massacre
One of the deadliest incidents occurred in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where Israeli aircraft struck mourners attending the funeral of Taher Abdel Wahed near a mosque.
Initial reports indicated that at least seven Palestinians were killed and more than 20 others wounded in the attack.
Elsewhere in Gaza, airstrikes, artillery shelling, and gunfire continued in Khan Younis, Beit Lahia, and Gaza City, alongside reported military incursions in several areas, resulting in additional casualties.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that during the previous 24 hours, hospitals received 28 injured people and four dead. Since the ceasefire was announced on October 10, the ministry says 1,127 Palestinians have been killed and 3,643 injured, in addition to hundreds of bodies recovered from under the rubble.
The ministry added that the overall death toll since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, has reached 73,250 killed and 173,751 injured.
Ceasefire Has Lost Its Meaning
Political analyst Iyad Al-Qarra argued that developments on the ground demonstrate the ceasefire has effectively collapsed due to the continuation of daily Israeli military operations.
He said Israel is “tearing up the ceasefire agreement with its missiles day and night,” pointing to the recent escalation, including demolitions and explosions inside what is known as the “Yellow Line,” as well as the deadly strike in Nuseirat.
Al-Qarra highlights that although Palestinians made an effort to adjust to the reality of a ceasefire despite ongoing casualties, the agreement is now meaningless due to the ongoing attacks. He maintained that Israel has not carried out any of its commitments, such as ceasing military operations, putting an end to ground incursions, and halting the expansion of the so-called “Yellow Line,” which keeps reducing the area that Palestinians can access inside Gaza.
He also said Israel had not fulfilled the humanitarian provisions of the agreement, arguing that aid entering Gaza remains far below the level required to meet basic civilian needs.
Political writer and analyst Mohammed Shaheen said the attack on mourners in Nuseirat reflects a broader policy targeting Palestinian society rather than isolated incidents.
Speaking to a local correspondent, Shaheen said the strike on the funeral procession, which he said resulted in 14 deaths and numerous injuries, demonstrated that Palestinians “no longer have even the right to bid farewell to their dead.”
He asserted that attacks on funerals send a message aimed not only at those gathered but also at Palestinian society as a whole, asserting that Israel’s military campaign targets homes, hospitals, mosques, and civilian gatherings in an effort to undermine the community’s resilience and collective identity.
Shaheen added that turning funeral ceremonies into military targets follows a pattern documented by human rights organizations and field reports regarding attacks on civilian gatherings during the war. He argued that such actions have failed to achieve political or military objectives despite many months of fighting.
Calls for Greater International Action
Shahin concluded that the most alarming aspect of the continued attacks is the absence of effective international deterrence, with many international responses limited to statements of condemnation. He warned that this has contributed to a climate of impunity and allowed repeated attacks on civilians to continue.
He called for the implementation of international humanitarian law, stronger protection for civilians, and more decisive action by mediators to ensure compliance with the ceasefire.
He also urged greater efforts to document alleged violations and pursue legal accountability for those responsible, saying such measures are necessary to halt the continuing cycle of violence against civilians.
