For the first time, European MPs commemorated on Monday, 28 November 2022, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
During the event, Palestine Ambassador to the European Union Adel Attia expressed the importance of the international Day of Solidarity in the history of Palestinain people to remind the world of the reality of the Palestinian tragedy and the injustice that Palestinains are exposed under the Israeli occupation and its suppression regime for several decades.
“Our people are the only ones in the world who are under the occupation, speaking about the historical developments of the Palestinian cause.”, he said
He called on the international community, especially the European Union, to take significant steps towards recognizing the State of Palestine and implementing the relevant United Nations resolutions in order to maintain the regulation of the two-state resolution in light of the constant Israeli escalation of violations, confiscation and Judaization of the Palestinian land.
During his speech, the representative of the United Nations stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation, put an end to the policy of impunity, and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
In 1979, the United Nations General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (resolution 32/40 B). On that day, in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine (resolution 181 (II)), which led to the dispersion and loss of home of the Palestinian people after Palestine became Israel.
