DaysofPal- The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said that the Israeli forces are detonating more than 17 booby-trapped vehicles every day in Gaza City, with each blast registering the force of a 3.7-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale.
In a statement issued from its Geneva headquarters, the rights group reported that over the past week alone, the Israeli forces detonated around 120 vehicles packed with an estimated 840 tons of explosives in residential neighborhoods.
“This amounts to an average of more than 17 vehicles daily, with each explosion equivalent to a 3.7-magnitude earthquake,” the statement read.
The monitor described the campaign as “the most extensive use of brute force aimed at annihilating civilians,” part of what it called a continuous genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, now entering its 24th consecutive month.
According to the organization, the Israeli army has intensified the use of the explosive-laden vehicles in three areas of Gaza—south, east, and north—targeting central residential blocks. The Euro-Med Monitor said this is consistent with the Israeli declared aim of destroying both the city and its population through death and forced displacement.
The rights group highlighted that after nearly two years of relentless bombardment, most buildings in Gaza are already structurally damaged.
As a result, each new detonation causes exponentially greater destruction, often damaging dozens of buildings within hundreds of meters.
The Euro-Med described the Israeli military’s tactic of repurposing decommissioned armored vehicles into remotely detonated “massive explosive blocks” as unprecedented in scale and method in modern history.
Despite the “monstrous nature” of these actions, the group criticized the international community’s lack of effective response, calling it “a glaring example of double standards and disregard for Palestinian lives.”
The Euro-Med Monitor also warned that the use of such vehicles inflicts psychological terror on civilians, spreading fear and panic to drive them into forced displacement.
It emphasized that the use of booby-trapped vehicles in populated areas is explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law and constitutes both a war crime and a crime against humanity when resulting in death, displacement, or deprivation of essential living conditions.
