DaysofPal- A human rights organization has condemned Israel’s treatment of Palestinian detainees, describing their condition upon release as “shocking” and indicative of severe torture and medical neglect.
Inmates released during the seventh round of a ceasefire negotiation between Israel and Hamas arrived in Gaza in a concerningly poor condition, with many in need of immediate medical attention, according to a statement from the organization Euro-Med Monitor.
“The emaciated bodies of the released individuals reflect the severity of systematic crimes and inhumane treatment that exceed all legal and moral bounds,” the organization stated. Some detainees reportedly suffered from limb amputations, severe swelling, and extreme exhaustion, while others were unable to walk without assistance.
The rights group accused Israel of using arbitrary detention, torture, and psychological humiliation as part of a broader policy aimed at breaking Palestinian prisoners’ will. Many detainees, who were held without formal charges, claimed they were beaten and mistreated until the very moment of their release.
Euro-Med Monitor also denounced the use of degrading clothing imposed on prisoners, including vests with Hebrew phrases that, according to the organization, incite violence and genocide. One such phrase, printed on detainees’ vests, reportedly reads: “I will pursue my enemies and overtake them; I will not return until I have destroyed them,” a biblical passage that is being used to justify oppression.

The statement highlighted the recent death of Raafat Adnan Abdul Aziz Abu Fanouneh, a detainee who succumbed to injuries allegedly caused by torture.
At least 60 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli custody since October 2023, the group reported, warning that the true number may be higher due to Israel’s practice of enforced disappearance.
Calling for international action, Euro-Med Monitor urged governments and human rights bodies to pressure Israel into releasing arbitrarily detained Palestinians and ending the use of torture. The group demanded that the International Criminal Court investigate these violations and hold perpetrators accountable.
The organization concluded with a call for transparency, urging Israel to disclose the locations and conditions of all Palestinian detainees and to provide them with access to legal representation and independent monitoring.
