DaysofPal- An internal Israeli military investigation into the events of October 7 has acknowledged a “complete failure” in preventing the attack by Hamas, which resulted in significant casualties.
“October 7 was a complete failure; the military failed in fulfilling its mission to protect Israeli civilians,” an Israeli military official stated while briefing reporters on condition of anonymity.
The report highlighted the military’s inability to prevent the assault, with the Gaza Division being overrun in the early hours of the attack. “Too many civilians died that day, asking themselves in their hearts or out loud, where was the Israeli military?” the official added.
Summarizing the findings, the military stated: “The military failed to protect Israeli citizens. The Gaza Division was overrun in the early hours of the war, as terrorists took control and carried out massacres in the communities and roads in the area.”
Israel’s army chief, Herzi Halevi, has publicly accepted full responsibility for the failure. “The responsibility is mine. I was the commander of the army on October 7th, and I also bear the full responsibility for all of you,” he said in a video statement. Halevi had already announced his resignation last month, citing the military’s shortcomings during the attack.
“This was one of the most horrific events ever to take place in Israel,” the army official said. “It was one of the IDF’s greatest failures.”
Reacting to the report, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem claimed the findings demonstrated the strength of Palestinian resistance.
“The Israeli failure revealed by the Israeli investigations confirms the superiority of the Palestinian will over the Israeli entire military machine,” he said.
Qassem also asserted that the report underscored “the ability of the security mind of the Qassam Brigades to defeat all the Israeli security services.”
He further remarked, “The arrogance of the colonizer will continue to prevent him from seeing the truth of the great Palestinian people who seek to obtain their freedom and independence.”
