DayofPal– The Israeli occupation army has persistently targeted Palestinian leaders and creatives in Gaza during a year marked by deadly assaults. The latest victim is Dr. Ashraf Al-Jadi, the Dean of the Nursing College at the Islamic University of Gaza.
Since the onset of the Israeli genocide in Gaza, the Israeli occupation has killed more than 130 Gazan scholars, researchers, and university academics during its brutal systematic scholasticide that targeted Gaza’s cultural mindset, as reported by Gaza Government Media Office.
Local sources reported that Dr. Al-Jadi was killed when the Israeli army struck a school sheltering displaced people in Nuseirat refugee camp on October 24, 2024.
A respected memorizer of the Quran, he had recently participated in the “Elite of Memorizers” competition, where he demonstrated his remarkable ability to recite the entire Quran in one sitting.
Eyewitnesses from the attacked school revealed that he was murdered while leading a Quran recitation session at the prayer hall in Al-Shuhada school.
Dr. Al-Jadi’s Facebook profile reveals a proud father of six, four of whom have memorized the entire Quran. He was eagerly awaiting the day when his youngest children, Hamza and Bisan, would join their siblings in this sacred achievement.
In a heartfelt post, he celebrated his daughter Sana’s completion of her memorization, saying: “What a sweet and precious moment! My dear daughter Sana Ashraf Al-Jadi has become a new memorizer of the Book of Allah in our home, following in the footsteps of her siblings Aseel, Bara’, and Mohammad. Hamza and Bisan are on that same beautiful journey.”
“Praise be to Allah for His abundant blessings and gifts. May He grant us all a place among the people of the Quran, His cherished and special ones,” he added.
In 2021, Dr. Ashraf Al-Jadi was awarded a reviewer certificate for scientific research from the prestigious American journal “Nursing Open,” published by the esteemed Wiley.
This recognition came after he evaluated and reviewed four scientific papers from international researchers featured in the journal’s 2020 editions..
Dr. Al-Jadi earned his PhD in public health from Bielefeld University in Germany and recently achieved the rank of professor, contributing significantly to the field with numerous published research papers in both national and international journals.
He celebrated a significant milestone in his Quranic journey, receiving licenses for Quran memorization and achieving an uninterrupted chain of transmission in Quranic recitation.
He shared his joy on Facebook, stating: “By Allah’s grace and blessing, I have been granted the Quranic chain of transmission connected to the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, through the recitation of Imam Asem, along with his narrators Shu’bah and Hafs, in the presence of my esteemed teacher, licensed reciter Mustafa Abu Hasbullah, his mentor Dr. Imad Abu Ghori, and the Sheikh of Palestinian reciters, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Jamal.”
He reflected on the profound significance of this achievement: “It sends shivers down the spine and touches the heart to have my name linked in this pure chain that connects back to the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him. I pray that Allah makes this endeavor sincere and accepts it as an intercessor on the Day of Judgment, rewarding our reciters and teachers of the Quran with the highest of blessings.”
Hamza, Dr. Al-Jadi’s youngest son, mourned his father, saying that his father’s life was a tapestry of remarkable scientific achievements, yet his heart was wholly devoted to the Book of Allah through memorization, knowledge, and reflection, culminating in the uninterrupted chain of transmission from the Messenger of Allah.
He emphasized that his father instilled in him and his siblings a deep love for knowledge and the Quran, believing that both were essential in nurturing a Palestinian’s connection to their land and aiding in its liberation from occupation.
Despite their profound sadness over their father’s killing, Hamza and his siblings take immense pride in his legacy and contributions to health and the Quran.
He added, “What brings us solace amidst our grief is knowing he ascended as a martyr during a session of Quran recitation, having successfully completed the tests of the elite reciters in its second season.”
