DayofPal– Israeli prison service of Damon prison has tightened the noose on Palestinian female prisoners, attacking them on a daily basis and further preventing them from practicing their religious freedom.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported Wednesday that female prisoners at Damon, where 94 female prisoners are incarcerated, are facing catastrophic conditions at a time the Israeli prison service has confiscated their headscarf, body covers and niqabs and replacing them with only a gray tracksuit without head cover.
Not only that, the commission also said that female prisoners’ rooms are subjected to arbitrary searches daily at dawn, with prison jailers strip the females naked in a bid for humiliating them.
As winter season has prevailed, the prison service prevents the female prisoners form having sleeping covers and clothes. When they try to weave their torn clothes, the needles and threads are being confiscated immediately, in addition to confiscating other simple belongings, such as an empty plastic container the females use as a substitute for cups.
When the females go out for a break, to the clinic, or to meet with their lawyer, if any allowed, they use one shoes, which is being borrowed from other prisoners, before being confiscated by the jailers.
Moreover, the female prisoners at Damon suffer from a severe shortage of personal hygiene products and blankets as the cold weather sets in.
For the past two weeks, the prison administration has deliberately installed light switches outside the prisoners’ rooms and removed internal switches, allowing the jailer to control the lighting according to their moods, further exacerbating the prisoners’ psychological torture.
Furthermore, the prison administration has also used a policy of starvation against Damon prisoners for months, which has caused hormonal changes and side effects on their bodies.
