DaysofPal—A ceasefire between Palestinian resistance groups and Israel officially went into effect at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, marking a pause after 470 days of relentless attacks. However, Israeli airstrikes and gunfire continued across the Gaza Strip, leaving 19 Palestinians dead and dozens more wounded despite the truce.
According to Gaza’s Civil Defense, Israeli attacks since the ceasefire’s implementation have claimed 19 lives. In its latest update, the agency reported that 10 Palestinians were killed and at least 36 others injured as Israeli forces targeted gatherings of civilians in various parts of the besieged enclave.
Local sources confirmed that strikes hit neighborhoods in Zaytoun, Shuja’iyya, and Al-Sha’af in eastern Gaza City, as well as Rafah and Khan Younis in the south. Artillery shelling also targeted areas north of Nuseirat and Al-Bureij in central Gaza.
The casualties were spread across the Strip, with nine fatalities in Gaza City, six in Khan Younis, three in northern Gaza, and one in Rafah.
The ceasefire comes after nearly 16 months of war, which has resulted in 46,899 Palestinian deaths, thousands of missing persons, and a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. While the guns may have fallen silent on paper, the suffering of Gaza’s people continues.
