DayofPal– A haunting scene unfolded in Central Gaza as cats were seen feeding on the lifeless bodies of Palestinians, who were killed by relentless Israeli incursion into the Nuseirat refugee camp. The devastating assault has claimed countless lives and left rescue workers powerless to reach those in desperate need.
Local videographer Talal Mahmoud shared footage on Sunday of the tragic aftermath near a UN-run school in the Nuseirat refugee camp, where bodies lay abandoned in the streets amidst Israel’s deliberate targeting of civil defense team. Ambulances and first responders were thwarted by the intensity of Israeli bombardments, unable to navigate the destruction to offer aid.
On Monday, Gaza’s media office described the scene as “horrific war crimes” in the latest Israeli ground offensive targeting Nuseirat. Reports indicated that over the weekend, 17 tanks and military vehicles stormed the camp, accompanied by relentless drone attacks and airstrikes, leaving devastation in their wake.
The sudden attack had allowed the Israeli army to kill and wound more than 50 people – all civilians, including children and women – in the camp. It had also demolished more than 20 housing units and left several dozens in massive destruction.
In addition to the ground offensive, the Israeli occupation army had conducted relentless air attacks in recent days, killing dozens of people, including children, even while taking refuge in their UN shelters.
“This attack is part of a broader campaign of genocide, systematic killing, total destruction, and forced displacement of civilians,” the Gaza office added.
The same scene has been repeated many times around Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza Strip. Early this weak, the Civil Defense in Gaza reported that stray dogs had ravaged civilians’ bodies who were killed by the Israeli army and left in the streets, while the Civil Defense teams were prevented from rescuing them.
“Israeli occupation forces were firing at medical and Civil Defense teams while they try to reach the bodies of civilians,” the Gaza’s Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said.
He further called on the Red Cross and the World Health Organization to take urgent action to pressure the Israeli occupation to allow humanitarian teams to carry out their operations in accordance with international laws, stressing on the necessity of granting Civil Defense teams the right to move freely in invaded areas.
Israeli occupation forces continue their deliberate assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya since the beginning of the annihilation plan in northern Gaza, aiming to halt its operations, resulting in injuries among patients and medical staff, along with damages to the hospital buildings.
On Tuesday, Israeli troops continued to besiege the hospital with air strikes and tanks’ shells heavily pounded it and the surrounding area.
On Monday, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, director of the hospital, said that on Sunday night tanks and bulldozers approached the western gate under cover of heavy gunfire directed at the facility. Bombing did not stop throughout the night, he said, destroying homes and surrounding buildings.
“Bullets penetrated the intensive care unit, the maternity department, and the specialised surgery department,” Abu Safiya explained.
