DaysofPal- The senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya stated on Sunday that the weapons of the Palestinian resistance remain directly linked to the continuation of the Israeli occupation and aggression, emphasizing that the issue remains under discussion among Palestinian factions and international mediators.
Al-Hayya stated that the resistance will not give the Israeli occupation a pretext to resume its war on Gaza, stressing that Palestinians have the legitimate right under international law to resist occupation.
“We are a people under occupation,” he said.
“Our weapons, like those of all Palestinian factions, are tied to the existence of occupation and aggression. If this occupation ends and a Palestinian state is established, these weapons and their bearers will become part of that state.” He added.
He confirmed that serious national discussions are underway to find approaches that both preserve Palestinians’ internationally recognized rights and maintain the ceasefire.
“We are ready to adhere to the ceasefire as agreed,” Al-Hayya added.
Commenting on recent U.S. statements, al-Hayya said: “President Donald Trump announced that the war has ended, and every day we hear American statements confirming this.”
He revealed that resistance factions are working around the clock to locate the bodies of Israeli captives, though the process faces major challenges.
“There are complications in searching for the remains of Israeli captives because the occupation has altered the landscape of Gaza,” al-Hayya explained.
“Some of those who buried the bodies were martyred or no longer remember the burial sites.” Despite the difficulties, 17 bodies have so far been handed over to Israel out of 28 listed, leaving 13 still unaccounted for, he said.
Al-Hayya added that the Israeli occupation has failed to achieve its objectives despite two years of war, “due to the steadfastness of our people and their tremendous sacrifices.” He expressed doubt that the Israeli occupation has “the motivation to return to war,” saying the occupation has suffered “an unprecedented setback in its history,” particularly after its “failure in Doha.”
He concluded that while the Israeli occupation may attempt to obstruct reconstruction and aid delivery through “false and flimsy excuses,” both popular and official international pressure will not allow a renewed war in Gaza.
