Three days after the end of the “Sharm Al-Sheikh” security meeting, in which the Israeli occupation committed not to announce new construction plans in its illegal settlements inside the occupied West Bank, the occupation municipality in Jerusalem decided to build a new settlement neighborhood on lands inside the West Bank.
The official Israeli TV channel, Kan, stated that the Israeli occupation municipality decided to build a new settlement neighborhood that includes more than 1,200 housing units on lands located inside the West Bank.
The channel indicated that the building of the new settlement neighborhood is of “strategic importance”, because it will prevent any possibility of the establishment of a Palestinian state with a contiguous geographical territory in the future.
It added that the new neighborhood will be built in the area separating the city of Bethlehem and East Jerusalem, which practically means the final separation between the southern West Bank and occupied Jerusalem.
It is reported that the Jordanian and Egyptian foreign ministries, in addition to the Palestinian Authority, had announced after the “Sharm el-Sheikh” meeting, in which the Israeli occupation and the United States also participated, that the representatives of the Israeli delegation had committed themselves not to approve new settlement plans inside the West Bank.
