Euro-Med Monitor calls for international action against the discriminatory approach of “Israel”

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called on the United Nations to take action against the discriminatory approach of "Israel" and obligate it to respect relevant international laws on equality and non-discrimination.

The European Rights Observatory said in a joint speech with the (GIWEH) organization during the discussion of the ninth item related to racism, racial discrimination, and xenophobia during the 46th session of the Human Rights Council, that the Durban Declaration is a milestone in the history of the United Nations, as it affirms that equality is a basic human right, and it is the duty of the state to fight racism and racial discrimination in all its forms.

The two organizations highlighted in a verbal speech delivered by the Euro-Med Monitor Regional Director in Europe, Muhammad Shehadeh, that since the establishment of the state of "Israel" in 1948, successive Israeli governments have chosen the wrong side of history, as they enacted many exclusionary policies that discriminate against the Palestinian Arab minority politically, economically, socially and culturally.

The two organizations indicated that this discrimination appears, for example, in the right to family life, wherein 2003, "Israel" used the emergency list to prevent family unification between Israeli and Palestinian citizens in the occupied territories.

The two organizations said that Israeli discrimination also appears in discriminatory land policies that stifle Palestinian towns despite population growth while allowing the expansion of Jewish cities without restrictions.

They added that discrimination appears more prominently in the Basic Law of 2018, which defines Israel as the exclusively Jewish nation-state, making Palestinian Arabs officially second-class citizens, and the list goes on and on.

Euro-Med Monitor and GIWEH reiterated that the government of "Israel" showed a serious disregard for calls to end such discrimination, and attacked human rights organizations working to promote equality, which prompted the Israeli organization "B'Tselem" to classify the control of "Israel" between the Jordan River and the  Mediterranean sea as an apartheid system.

The two human rights organizations stressed that: "This worrying reality cannot be tolerated and cannot continue forever, which requires concerted efforts by all member states of this Council to end it."
