DaysofPal – A 30-year-old Palestinian woman died after an ambulance was delayed for more than 30 minutes at an Israeli military gate in the occupied West Bank town of Sinjil, according to the town’s mayor, who said the delay prevented her from receiving urgent medical treatment.

Moataz Tawafsha, mayor of Sinjil, northeast of Ramallah, said the ambulance was unable to pass through an Israeli military gate at the town’s entrance while attempting to transport Sujood Fuqaha, a mother of two, to hospital after she suffered a heart attack.

In a video published by Sinjil Municipality, Tawafsha said the ambulance remained stranded at the gate for over half an hour awaiting permission to cross.

“Everyone knows how critical time is in medical emergencies like these,” he said, stressing that Fuqaha needed to reach the hospital as quickly as possible to receive life-saving treatment.

The mayor questioned how long Israeli military gates and checkpoints would continue to claim the lives of innocent Palestinians in Sinjil.

The video showed Tawafsha standing outside the closed iron gate while the ambulance waited nearby. It also included audio recordings of paramedics pleading with Israeli soldiers to open the gate and allow the vehicle to pass to save the woman’s life.

Palestinian sources said over 100 Israeli settlers had attacked the outskirts of Sinjil the day before the incident. During the attack, settlers opened fire on residents and activists and set agricultural land ablaze.

Sinjil has been subjected to repeated attacks by Israeli occupation forces and settlers, while Israeli military control over the town’s entrances has imposed increasingly severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian residents.

Since October 2023, violence across the occupied West Bank has sharply escalated. According to official Palestinian figures, Israeli occupation forces and settlers have killed 1,181 Palestinians, injured around 13,000 others, and arrested nearly 24,000 Palestinians.

A report issued on July 6 by the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission and Settlements documented 3,488 settler attacks during the first half of 2026. The assaults included attacks on Palestinian communities, arson targeting homes and farmland, shootings, land seizures, and the establishment of new settlement outposts, resulting in the killing of 17 Palestinians.
