DaysofPal — Hamas announced on Monday that it has elected Khalil al-Hayya as head of its Political Bureau, succeeding Yahya Sinwar, who was martyred during Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the movement’s internal elections, conducted by Hamas’s Shura Council, officially confirming al-Hayya as the organization’s new political leader.

Sinwar, one of Hamas’s most prominent leaders, was martyred during clashes with Israeli occupation forces in Rafah amid Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.

Following his martyrdom, Hamas temporarily entrusted the movement’s leadership to a collective council until the internal electoral process was completed.

The movement had previously announced that a second round of voting would be held after the initial round failed to produce a decisive result.

The final vote, announced on Monday, formally confirmed Khalil al-Hayya as Hamas’s new Political Bureau chief.
