DaysofPal- The Arab League has reaffirmed its rejection of any Israeli plans aimed at dismantling the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing that the Palestinian refugee issue remains central to the Palestinian cause.
In a statement issued by its General Secretariat on Sunday, marking World Refugee Day, the Arab League warned of the serious consequences of the Israeli plans to displace Palestinians, both internally and externally, on regional security and stability.
Th The Arab League reiterated its firm opposition to any form of forced displacement of the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need to protect their rights and ensure their continued presence on their land.
The Arab League also highlighted the importance of strengthening protection for refugees and ensuring their access to basic rights, while supporting host countries and communities that bear increasing burdens due to accommodating large numbers of refugees.
The statement underscored the vital role of UNRWA in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees and called for sustained financial, political, and legal support for the agency.
It rejected any attempts to reduce, replace, or alter UNRWA’s mandate or the legal status of Palestinian refugees.
Furthermore, the Arab League urged the international community to continue supporting humanitarian organizations working with refugees, particularly UNRWA and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to address the growing humanitarian challenges across the region.
The statement comes amid ongoing regional tensions and increasing concerns over the future of Palestinian refugees and the institutions that support them.
