DaysofPal- A former senior intelligence official has described militias cooperating with Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip as unreliable groups composed largely of individuals involved in criminal activity.
Oded Eilam, the former head of the intelligence division at the Israeli Mossad agency, said in a media interview that these groups include “drug dealers and criminals,” highlighting the challenges faced by Israeli occupation services operating in Gaza.
Eilam explained that intelligence agencies are unable to be fully selective when choosing local partners on the ground, noting that “most members of these militias cannot be relied upon, and none of them are suitable.”
He added that the complex and volatile security environment in Gaza forces the Israeli occupation to work with available actors despite the risks involved.
According to Eilam, the absence of viable alternatives has pushed Israeli occupation to depend on such groups, with intelligence bodies often required to make rapid decisions under difficult field conditions.
The remarks come amid growing accusations that Israel has relied on local armed groups to carry out operations inside Gaza.
Critics argue that such tactics are aimed at spreading instability and weakening the territory’s social and security structures without exposing Israeli forces to direct risk.
Reports indicate that Israeli forces have intensified strikes on security installations across Gaza in recent months in efforts to create conditions that allow these terrorist groups to expand their presence within civilian areas.
Sources further suggest that Israeli occupation began recruiting members for these groups months after the outbreak of the war in October 2023, drawing individuals with prior records related to collaboration, drug trafficking, and substance abuse.
The situation underscores the ongoing complexity of the Israeli war in Gaza and raises concerns about the long-term impact of such strategies on Gaza’s internal stability.
