DaysofPal- Palestinian mourners gathered on Saturday to bid farewell to seven-month-old Sam Fahd Abu Heikal, who was killed by Israeli gunfire that targeted his family in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank.
According to the child’s father, the family had been traveling from Bethlehem to Hebron when their vehicle came under direct fire from Israeli forces on Friday evening.
He said he was planning to drop off his wife and children in Tel Rumeida when Israeli soldiers opened fire on their car.
The father recounted that he had brought the vehicle to a stop near a military position and raised his hands, but a soldier allegedly fired directly at the car despite the absence of any apparent threat.
He added that the distance between the vehicle and the Israeli soldiers was no more than ten meters.
The bullet reportedly penetrated the windshield, struck his hand, and then fatally hit the infant in the head, while also injuring his wife in the face.
The father confirmed that his wife is in stable condition, although a fragment remains lodged near her heart.
He rejected Israeli claims that the shooting was accidental, describing the incident as a deliberate act.
He further stated that the Israeli soldier who fired the shot left the scene along with other troops following the incident.
The Israeli killing of the infant has drawn widespread attention and adds to the ongoing Israeli crimes in the region, amid repeated incidents involving civilians coming under fire.
